How do we clean sandstone tiles?
Sandstone can be a little trickier to clean as the stone is more sensitive to chemicals than granite. It is also softer and so harsh cleaning methods such as high power pressure washing can damage the stone.
We will usually apply some sort of a mold remover as mold really does take root deep within the porous sandstone. This mold removal stage may require several applications to remove even the tough black spots. Once the mold has been killed we will test our pressure washer to see what it does to the stone. If it does not disturb the stone in any way then we will use pressure washing to remove the dead mold and dirt. If pressure washing does effect it we are left with rotary machines and brushes to clean the stone.
In the pic above you can see limestone tiles on and exterior patio that where deep cleaned and sealed. We began by applying mold removing chemical and then scrubbing all the tiles to remove ingrained dirt. Everything was thoroughly rinsed and sealed afterwards to preserve the newly cleaned limestone.
