Sandstone cleaning job in Hertfordshire

This sandstone tiled kitchen we cleaned and sealed In Hertfordshire. You can see the difference from the pics above where our knowledge and experience helped us to strip off the grease and restore it to its natural bright colour.

Sandstone is beautiful natural material , with this particular floor each tile had a unique character with some tiles even featuring little fossils.  The down side is its pretty porous and therefore absorbs dirt and grime very easily.

How did we clean this sandstone tiled floor?

The first step is always a hand detailed scrub with an appropriate stripping degreasing chemical. We carefully cleaned and steamed every grout line to remove build up and restore its natural colour.

We then machine brush and wet vacuum the floor to further clean and rinse chemical out of the tiles leaving the stone in a clean natural state

Sealing and maintaining your sandstone tiles

Sealing your sandstone tiles is very important as the porous nature of this stone make it very susceptible to oil and grime going deep into the tiles. Sealing will essentially partially block the pours in the stone and therefore inhibiting dirty liquids from penetrating the stone too deeply.

There are many tile sealers on the market but we would recommend an impregnating sandstone specified sealer from either LTP, Lithofin or Fila. Its also advised that you seal the floor every year or two as the sealers do not last forever. Appropriate PH neutral cleaning detergents will also need to be used as they will not break down your chosen sealer. Detergents that are to hi alkaline such as washing up liquid will damage your stone seals and render them ineffective
