Deep cleaning of your Victorian porch tiles
There is nothing more attractive in a period home than to have the original Victorian porch tiles in a good condition. It’s the first thing many visitors to your home will notice, and they really do add an undeniable charm if they are looking good!
We offer a comprehensive deep cleaning service for these porches all across north London, West London and specifically in the Ealing Chiswick area. There are many Victorian properties with original tiles in these areas needing repair, and we spend a lot of time there.

Dirty porch tiles before cleaning and restoration
It always amazes me how these old tiles clean so well after many decades of being hammered by the elements! Not every time, but a lot of the time they end up looking fantastic after a good thorough deep clean and seal. In the image above, you can see the drab dirty tiles hold almost no appeal and their charm is completely wasted.

The deep cleaning and restoration process in a nutshell
Alkaline detergent: The process to restore these old tiles changes a bit on a job per job basis but the usual practice is to apply a good cleaning detergent to remove very ingrained dirt and grime that sits far down inside these porous tiles. This is all a very hand detailed intensive process that really focusses in on the tiles. If one is not focussed then they simply wont become properly cleaned.
Acidic scrub: After the stage above a good acidic detergent is the key to removing old screed and cement residue to really brighten the tiles up. Again this is a very intensive scrub that makes use of abrasives , chisels, scrapers and various other aids.
The deep seal: Finally, when properly dry we have to seal the tiles. This should always involve a penetrating tile sealer, hopefully with colour-enhancing properties. These tiles need protection and will definitely suck the dirt up quickly if not sealed. The colour-enhancing deep sealers are what really make these tiles pop, so bear this in mind for the sealing stage!
