Here we have a dark grey brown limestone marble kitchen worktop refurbishment that we polished to a very high gloss in North London Crouch End. The customer was exceptionally happy and it had quite a dramatic before and after effect!
Limestone marble is quite nice to polish up and usually has a good result, if you wish to know how I did this job then continue reading for the refurbishment process details and pics of the job.

Alkaline chemical strip and scrub of the marble
On every job I always will apply a safe alkaline chemical and good scrub to remove ingrained dirt and grime. This type of detergent helps to remove discoloured old tile sealing products that may interfere with our refurbishment. In the case of marble tiles this is a good opportunity to scrub the grout lines. On larger marble floors this stage is done with rotary floor machine and medium grade scouring pad ( red)

Resurfacing and honing the marble limestone with hand held polisher
Once the stone is clean from the alkaline detergent scrub then polishing can begin. This starts with resurfacing the stone using appropriate abrasives. In this case diamond imbued resin pads that are designed for marble and limestone can be seen cutting off a layer of the stone. The stone polisher will continue to use finer grades of abrasive pad that will eventually end up at around 3000-3500 grt. This will produce a decent shine in the marble or limestone.

Apply a polishing paste or crystalliser
These limestone marble worktops had a good polishing paste applied as the final step. The paste I use creates a hardened surface that makes the stone more scratch and stain resistant and more durable. It also looks absolutely fantastic!
Maintenance of limestone marble
Probably as important as the refurbishment is that the customer really needs to maintain their marble and limestone going forward. These materials are calcium based and very susceptible to acidic damage. Many foods and liquids in a typical kitchen are acidic and can damage or stain your marble. To maintain your stone you need to A ) top up the seals B) only clean with PH neutral detergents.
I like to really explain this stuff to my customers if they are around when I am doing the job.
