After a few years all showers if left unattended will gather a build up of grime, bodily excrement and product build up. We often find allot of soap and shower products build up a scum in the grout lines and human skin and bodily fat add to this build up creating a very hard dirt to remove once solidified.
We are governed by the stone type as calcium based stones such as marble and limestone are very sensitive to acidic detergents so in many cases its even harder to get rid of the dirt. However there are still allot of tools at our disposal to remove most dirt and stains from tiles and grout lines.
See in the pic above how the dirt runs out of the grout lines and into the shower tray. These tiles were marble so no acids could be used for the cleaning stage. Instead we used very high alkaline strippers and degreasers along with a few trade secrets to completely dissolve the built up grime.
Another thing we find allot with shower and wetrooms is that limescale if left on glass too long etches it to create little white mark on the glass which are impossible to get off without cutting down and polishing the glass. Sometimes the marks are just limescale and easy to remove but in this case we had to polish them out with glass polish.
Marble and stone polishing- St Albans
We do more than just clean the stone because we also cut it down with diamond pads which really helps to remove all the deeper etch marks and stains that the cleaning process does not. This honing of the stone reconditions it and makes it look new again. Then we are able to bring back the shine if the client wants. The shower in the pics above got the full treatment which included replacing all the silicone and resealing to leave this shower looking fresh, clean and sparkly!
